The festive season is now upon us and the preparations to make this the best Christmas ever are in full flow. One thing we can all appreciate is the focal point of any house is the Christmas tree.
Okay, you have found the best tree after looking at goodness knows how many. It's the right size and shape, you simply can't wait to get it home and stick all of your lights and decorations on it. But what is the best way to get it home? Transporting a Christmas tree is can be quite a daunting task, but not to worry - we've got some top tips to help you along the way.
First thing's first, attaching a Christmas tree is easier if you have a roof rack. If you have a rack or cargo hooks then just follow these instructions:
- Check that the tree you have selected will feasibly fit on top of your car - if you have a small car, it's probably best not to go for the biggest tree there. Also, if your tree is sticking out of your car in a dangerous fashion you could be breaking the Highway Code.
- Ensure the tree is netted before leaving as it will make it much more manageable.
- Place some tarp or blanket over the roof where the Christmas tree is going to go (this will save you from scratching the roof of your car).
- When placing the tree on top of your car, make sure you have the stump end at the front - this will prevent the wind from damaging your tree.
- Wrap some bungee cords or rope around the tree several times, and attach these to the roof rack securely. Attach the cords at opposite corners. Use several cords/ropes, rather than one long one, as this will hold the tree better in place.
- Give the tree a good tug just to make sure it is tied down securely enough. If it moves just attach another cord until it's stable.
- Take care while driving away, as there will be more weight on your car than you are used to.
